Jalaysha Tucker, a Mass Communications student from North Carolina Central University. Jalaysha currently serves as the Marketing Intern for her time being at Microspace. Enjoy the Q&A session below to learn more about Jalaysha.
Why did you choose your HBCU? I chose NC Central because I decided to not go where all my friends were going, which was A&T. I had been around the same people since fourth grade, because my charter school stopped letting people in after eighth grade. I wanted to meet fresh faces and start over in a new environment.
Do you hold any school positions outside of your internship? Currently I serve on the Junior Class Council as the Public relations Officer. I am the Planning Director for National Society of Minorities in Hospitality (NSMH). I am the Treasurer for the student organization, Universal Vidya. Lastly, I serve as the Public Relations Chair for the NCCU chapter of PRSSA.
How did you hear about this internship? I heard about this internship through an intern who participated last year.
What are some accomplishments you are proud of? I am really proud of myself for using great time management to manage all of the clubs and organizations I’m in. I enjoy a busy schedule, because I feel every day, I enjoy completing my to-do list.
What piece of critical feedback has stuck with you and helped you through your career? Don’t take everything so personal was a critical piece of feedback that has stuck with me. Business is business and sometimes we as humans tend to personalize things that have nothing to do with us. I learned to look at things on a broader scale rather than internalize them.
What TV or movie character would you most like to have lunch with? If I could have lunch with an actress, it’d be Queen Latifah.
If you could have any superpower, what superpower would you like to have? If I could have any superpower, it would be to have x-ray vision.
How would you describe the perfect work environment for you? I would describe the perfect work environment as family oriented, motivating, and fun.
Upon arriving home, you realize you are the winner of a multimillion-dollar jackpot. What do you do next? If I was the winner of a multimillion dollar jackpot the first thing, I would do is pay off my mom, grandma, and aunt’s bills. I would invest into more stocks and open up my own PR firm.
Finish this sentence. When I am successful I will…? When I am successful, I will remain humble and remember to keep an open mind.
